Automatic Gas Leakage Detection System
Automatic Gas Leakage Detection System is a major concern in both domestic and industrial environments due to the high flammability of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Unattended leaks can lead to fire hazards, explosions, and even loss of life. To mitigate this risk, we propose a Gas Leakage Detection System using an MQ-5 gas sensor and Arduino Nano. This system is designed to automatically detect the presence of leaked gas and alert individuals through a buzzer alarm and an LCD display that shows the warning message.
The MQ-5 sensor continuously monitors the air for the presence of LPG or similar combustible gases. When the gas concentration exceeds a certain threshold, the sensor signals the Arduino. The microcontroller then triggers a buzzer to warn nearby individuals and displays “Gas Leakage Detected” on the 16×2 LCD display. In the absence of leakage, the system shows “No Gas Leakage Detected.”
A 9V battery powers the circuit, with a 7805 voltage regulator stepping down the voltage to 5V for safe operation. The system is compact, affordable, and ideal for home kitchens, restaurants, gas-powered vehicles, and industrial zones.
This project promotes safety and automation by reducing human error and providing real-time alerts for gas-related hazards. It can also be integrated with IoT modules for remote alerts in advanced versions.
