Fingerprint-Based Attendance System

The Fingerprint-Based Attendance Sheet is an automated biometric system that replaces traditional roll calls or manual registers. Using a fingerprint sensor and Arduino, it securely records attendance based on individual biometric authentication. This system prevents proxy entries, ensures accurate timestamping, and simplifies attendance management in schools, colleges, and offices.

At the core of the project is the Arduino UNO, which acts as the central controller. It processes fingerprint data, controls the interface components, and logs attendance events. A fingerprint sensor module (such as R305 or R307) captures and compares fingerprints against stored templates. It supports two primary operations: enrollment (adding a new fingerprint) and matching (comparing scanned input with stored data).

To ensure reliable time-based records, the system includes a Real-Time Clock (RTC) module like DS3231 or DS1307. This module provides accurate timestamps even during power loss, using a built-in coin-cell battery. Each successful attendance entry is logged with the exact date and time.

An interactive 16×2 LCD display shows real-time messages like “Place Finger,” “Access Granted,” and timestamped confirmations. A buzzer gives audio feedback—short beeps for success and longer tones for errors. Visual indicators such as green and red LEDs signal scan outcomes, enhancing accessibility and usability.

Push buttons allow the user or admin to switch modes—such as enrolling or deleting fingerprints—and view system status. Breadboards and jumper wires are used to prototype the circuit layout before final deployment.

This project combines biometrics, embedded systems, and user-friendly interfaces to build a highly reliable and cost-effective attendance system.
